Aston Villa suffered what their manager described as a European hangover at Turf Moor on Sunday, dropping two valuable Premier League points in a 2-2 draw against already-relegated Burnley. Three days after booking their place in the UEFA Europa League final with a thumping win over Nottingham Forest, Villa could not find the energy or focus to overcome a spirited Burnley side that had lost five consecutive matches heading into this fixture.
The result means Villa are still not mathematically assured of Champions League qualification through the league, though they remain four points clear of Bournemouth in fifth place with only two games remaining. The point keeps them on course but the manner of the result will concern their coaching staff heading into the final weeks.

Anthony Strikes Early, Barkley Levels Before Half Time
Burnley stunned Villa by taking the lead inside eight minutes. Jaidon Anthony fired home a rebound at the near post after a deflected effort fell perfectly into his path and he reacted quicker than the Villa defensive line. The goal silenced the travelling Villa supporters briefly but it did not take long for Unai Emery's side to respond.
Ross Barkley, who has been one of Villa's most consistent performers in the second half of the season, levelled matters with a flick header from John McGinn's perfectly delivered corner on 42 minutes. The goal came at a good time for Villa heading into the interval.
Watkins and Flemming Complete the Scoring
Villa looked to have taken control when Ollie Watkins poked home on 56 minutes after latching onto a through ball, but Burnley refused to let the game slip away. Zian Flemming, one of the few Burnley players to have consistently performed above the level of a relegated side throughout the campaign, equalised two minutes later with a composed finish to make it 2-2. The scoreline did not change despite late pressure from both sides and substitute Zeki Amdouni came close for Burnley while Douglas Luiz had a long-range attempt saved in the final minutes for Villa.
What the Draw Means
Villa remain in fourth place with 59 points. Arsenal's victory over West Ham on the same afternoon means the title picture is becoming clearer at the top. For Villa, the Europa League final represents the bigger prize now as the domestic season winds down and their thoughts shift increasingly toward Budapest.
